Antisemitism Online
Antisemitism has found renewed reach and intensity in online spaces. Where extreme antisemitic ideas once existed in obscure web forums on the margins of society, digital platforms today ensure they reach mainstream audiences.
Social media in particular makes antisemitic ideas easier to find and to spread at unprecedented speed and scale, often with little accountability. This is not simply an issue of malicious individuals spreading antisemitic content but also a systemic problem shaped by content moderation failures, algorithms that push conspiratorial content towards users, and a lack of regulatory oversight and ethical standards. (1)
The rapid development and growing use of AI technologies, already changing how people access, generate and trust information, exacerbates these challenges. (2) Crucially, online antisemitism does not stay online. It normalises and legitimises antisemitic ideas, increasing the risk of real-world antisemitic hatred and violence.
The resources in this section explore the forms antisemitism takes online, how it adapts to platform dynamics, and the challenges and tools involved in identifying and challenging its spread.
